They’re great in porridge, but products containing oats could have skincare benefits for your baby too

Your baby’s skin is different to adult skin. It may look perfect, but it is very delicate so it needs extra special care throughout the first years of life. Compared to adult’s skin, baby’s skin:

  • Has a barrier that’s about 30% thinner
  • Can lose moisture faster
  • Is more prone to irritation
  • Absorbs water at a faster rate, and can lose it faster, too

Because it is more delicate, baby’s skin needs more protection from environmental changes and harsh cleansers.

Oatmeal baths have long been recommended for people with dry and sensitive skin conditions, providing a soothing effect and improving the skin’s protective barrier. Here are five ways that oats can benefit your skin:

Moisturising

It restores moisture to dehydrated skin – a great option for your baby’s skin as it loses moisture faster than adults

Soothing

Oatmeal soothes even the most sensitive skin

Protecting

It creates a protective film on the surface of your baby’s skin

Buffering

Oatmeal returns baby’s skin back to normal pH levels

Cleansing

The oat particles adhere to dirt and dead skin cells allowing them to be washed away
