The arrival of a new baby should be a time of great happiness. But for one in nine UK parents*, whose babies arrive too soon, too small or too sick, it can also be a time of great anxiety. The charity Bliss exists to help make sure these babies, and their families, receive the best possible care and support. And this is exactly why Tesco Loves Baby has pledged to support Bliss from 2013 – because Tesco Loves Babies too.

Tesco Loves Baby is fully funding the Bliss Family Support Helpline

The Bliss Family Support Helpline is a UK-wide service that offers telephone advice and support to the families and friends of any baby who is in (or who has been in) a neonatal unit – that’s a specialist centre where premature and sick babies are treated in hospital. The helpline also offers advice and information to professionals caring for these vulnerable babies and their loved ones.

The Bliss Helpline team is made up of qualified advisors, trained to provide confidential support and advice from Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, as well as 7pm to 9pm on Monday to Wednesday. The team also refers callers to other Bliss services, many of which are free. You can call the Bliss Family Support Helpline on 0500 618140** (see below for full details).

Other ways Bliss helps parents and babies in need

As well as the Family Support Helpline, Bliss also hosts a message board at, where parents can share experiences and give valuable support to one another. Bliss provides a UK-wide network of trained counsellors and support groups too, and campaigns for the highest standards of care for all babies, their parents and families, no matter where they live. Bliss works with doctors and nurses to improve the care of premature and sick babies, and helps to fund innovative research to raise standards. Finally, Bliss has an exciting new programme of Bliss nurses, based in hospitals, to provide direct support and care to babies, parents and families, when they need it most.
